How does the trial day work?

  1. After you have booked a time, you will be greeted by one of the team and Luna, our doggo.
  2. We’ll offer you a drink and you will meet whoever is co-working that day.
  3. We’ll show you around and answer any questions you may have.
  4. Then, you’ll have a chance to use the space and do whatever you need to do!

“I’ve been going to Common Fiction since its launch and it’s made such a difference to my working week. Everyone is so welcoming and the space is great to work in. There’s a really good balance of social focus and work focus - I love the event talks and the social nights! There’s no pressure to commit to set days a week so it’s perfect for flexible working. It’s one of my favourite places to be!”

Benefits of coming to the coworking space

Freelancing isn’t the easiest profession to socialise! Come meet your people in a relaxed and open space.

Find talented people who can support on projects. Need a web designer, copywriter or a photographer? Look no further.

We have found that we’re all more productive when we know other people are working in the space.

It's easy to get distracted at home! Just being in a space with other active people can keep you on track with your work!

From yoga sessions, to socials, to creative events - we have all sorts going on at Common Fiction

Freelancing and remote working can be lonely. Co-working with like-minded people means you can always have a chat and a cuppa with someone!

Questions we always get!

How much does it cost to join?

It costs £15 to co-work with us for the day, £10 for a half day.

Our meeting room is hireable at a rate of £25pp per day or £15pp per half-day (min. booking of 2 people).

Can I take private calls in the space?

Of course! Feel free to take calls at your desk, we just ask to use headphones, and respect your fellow co-workers. Whilst co-working in the space, you get access to use our meeting room space for calls (dependent on availability), or you can hire the meeting room if you require some privacy for a longer period. Our kitchen & breakout areas are great spaces too, and when the weather is on our side, you can use our yard!

Do the events cost extra?

We put on some free events for our coworkers such as our annual socials. We are also an event space for hire, so when an external event is ran here, you may have to pay for that.

Can I bring in food and keep it in the kitchen?

You sure can. We just ask you to make sure you don't leave food for too long, and that you clean up after yourself before you leave the space. But, all our kitchen utensils, crockery and cutlery are to share.

Can I run my own events in the space?

Yes! We’ve held our socials, parties with live DJs, networking events, workshops, presentations, you name it.

Get in touch to talk about your event:

When does the coworking space open and close?

We're currently open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, every week, from 9am to 5pm.

Where’s the nearest metro to Common Fiction?

Our nearest metro station is North Shields, on Nile Street - a 5 minute walk from Howard Street.

How does booking a day in work?

We use an app called SignIn, which we walk you through using on your first day with us. You can pay for your days in bulk, and take them as and when you need, or you can pay via card at reception on arrival. We have a 24hr cancellation policy!

Is there a minimum number of days I have to come in each month?

No! We have co-workers that come in every day, some that come in once a week, and some that come in once a month! We're here for you, as and when you need us.

Who we are

Common Fiction was born out of frustration and isolation when working from home. We wanted to create a space that cultivates creativity, collaboration and fun!

The space is designed for freelancers and solopreneurs that want flexibility, inspiration and comfort from their workspace. So, we designed the perfect light and airy space for coworking and events.

"The most stylish and inspiring co-working space in the North East! That's not clickbait either. I've worked out of at least 5 spaces in recent years, and Common Fiction is far and away the best!
Andrew & Jade are super accomodating, and really nurture the community who work in the space. Everyone I've met is really cool, supportive and happy to share thoughts and ideas- it's highly collaborative!
As a remote worker, I really look forward to my days at Common Fiction. My energy levels are high, and output and productivity even higher!
